For 2015 I am beginning a new challenge. I am trying to run the Glass Slipper Challenge during the Princess Weekend at Walt Disney World. I am running on behalf of the Children's Miracle Network Charity team. I am raising $1200 for this opportunity. Children's Miracle Network helps more kids a year than GKTW , and has a great impact on the families it serves. Please consider supporting this effort!!!!
In January 2014, I ran in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon as a part of the Run GKTW team. I began the fundraising journey with my long time friend, Karen Bonk. Karen and I set off to begin running for many reasons. One reason, the start of our half marathon planning, was to celebrate our upcoming 40th birthdays. At Karen's request, we looked into the Give Kids the World's Inaugural charity run during the January Disney race weekend, and took it upon ourselves to meet the challenge of each raising $3000 or more and running in the first charity run to benefit Give Kids the World. Karen's oldest son, Patrick, is a Give Kids the World alumni child. In 2009, Patrick was in a horrifying accident and while he regained his ability to walk, and move forward in life, he still has many issues. Patrick is lucky. Many children served by Give Kids the World are referred from many different wish organizations, and many do not live past the year they visited, never mind, the three years it has been since Patrick's visit. These children see doctor after doctor.
Give Kids the World does many things. The families it serves are given a week long fantasy vacation. No doctors. Respite for the family. Time to enjoy life while it is in front of you. The family is provided the wishes of the child, no matter the hour. Ice Cream for Breakfast, absolutely. Pizza at 2 am when you arrive at the Village? Delivered to your cottage? Done. Character photo opportunities, theme park tickets... all provided to the families of children with life threatening conditions, at no cost. Doctors bills for the average family are high enough. Imagine seeing the doctors (not just one) several times a week. Hospital stays are common. Specialists, surgeries.... this all adds up, and all wears down on the child, and the family. Knowing your child does not have the promise of tomorrow? Makes it tougher. Give Kids the World lets these kids just be kids. Lets the families ENJOY the vacation they never would have gotten with their child.
You can be a part of this merry memory making. A simple donation sponsoring my half marathon run. 100% of the funding goes to Give Kids the World. By donating on my www.firstgiving.com page, if you provide an address (which I don't have access to), Give Kids the World directly sends you a thank you letter. This non-profit solely exists to fulfill the wishes of these children. The organization has been awarded a four-star rating for sound fiscal management for eight consecutative years by Charity Navigator, America's largest independant evaluator of charities. Give Kids the World was founded in 1986, and has welcomed more than 125,000 families from all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
During the marathon weekend, I will have the chance to visit the Give Kids the World Village and see the impact of your donations first hand. Donating through Firstgiving is simple and secure, but should you wish to pay by an alternate method, please contact me.
Thank you for your support!!!
